Local, up-and-coming talent getting ready for Youth Centre show

School-aged performers from across Clarington are being called to the spotlight for an inspiring presentation, in a show that will be in the style of popular series like Canada’s Got Talent. Its name is even similar… the Clarington’s Got Talent Youth Showcase is happening on Friday, May 3rd beginning at 7 pm. This is all about creating a venue, at the Firehouse Youth Centre, for teens and pre-teens to display rehearsed segments in front of a live audience. They’ll also face the critical, but supportive, eyes of judges, who will be evaluating each performance using pre-written criteria.

But, don’t bother to look for Howie Mandel amongst the crowd because this will be a program unique to the local area. It’s set to include dancing, singing, bands, and instrumental acts. “The event is to celebrate youth during National Youth Week and promote young people’s talent and potential,” explains Lyndsay Riddoch, CGT organizer. So far, there are around 15 acts lined up featuring a range of different genres. It’s a chance for attendees to learn something new and possibly even meet one of Clarington’s next big stars.

On a broader scale, National Youth Week is a country-wide movement that encourages young people to get involved in their communities in positive ways. It also highlights the strengths of Millennials, Gen Zers, and beyond. Riddoch adds, “The show is hosted by Bowmanville Rotary Club in collaboration with Firehouse Youth Centre and all proceeds raised will be in support of Clarington Youth Centres.”

Admission is $5 and there will also be refreshments and snacks. And, a chance to win prizes. Competitors can look forward to possibly taking home musical prize packs or a gift card to a local business. Of course, they’ll also be competing for the coveted title of “Clarington’s Got Talent Champion.” It will be an exciting opportunity for participants to have a lot of fun and to get involved in a worthwhile community initiative.
